This month's social event will be hosted by our own Ron Rice. He has volunteered his house to enjoy our fellowship together as a club and invite others to join us and see how we socialize. Please feel free to invite someone you are interested in sharing the club with, and think will enjoy our projects and fellowship. Bring a side dish and your favorite drink (alcoholic or not). Ron and Tory will provide the main dish. Parking may be tough (carpool if possible). Otherwise, park on the corner of Sky Rim and Bridannela and call Ron for shuttle (619-396-5454) |

Following a light breakfast, Master cellist and orchestra director for La Orcestra Joven del Ecuador ( Youth Orchestra of Ecuador) which is composed of refugees fleeing terrible circumstances in Venezuela, will play a few pieces for us at our regular club meeting. We will broadcast this live on Facebook Live so that other clubs may also hear him play. We are hopeful that we can solicit donations to assist with the funding of this orchestra. While there is a Global Grant to support this as well, COVID19 and its variants have taken a toll on the efforts to get monetary support. Diego has flown to Washington DC, and will be visiting here in San Diego before returning to Ecuador. Diego created his own non-profit foundation called AmaZonArt to aide Venezuelan young people who were once encouraged to study classical music in their home countries, to acuire instruments, and join together to create an orchestra so they can begin to earn a living. Mundo Gardens is a non-profit, community garden and social justice organization. We work on solutions to the issues that impact the social determinants of health. We are culturally responsive and creatives who use all our tools and our talents to reclaim our health and take back our communities. We founded the first community garden in National City, an area known for its fast food and high obesity and diabetes. https://edibleschoolyard.org/program/mundo-gardens-community-garden

On Saturday, January 29th, we will gather at the home of Lisa Youngflesh again, to make seed bombs with California Poppy seeds. This time, the clay will be very iron rich, which means that it will stain your hands and clothes. If you are concerned about this, wear an apron, or clothes you don't mind getting stained. Iron will wash off your hands eventually, but it is very hard to get out of clothing! Arrive at 10am and we plan to be finished by noon. Contact Lisa Youngflesh for address and directions if you need them. |
