Fun while raising funds was the purpose of the November 16th get-together at Ivy's home! Decorating pumpkin centerpieces and taking a chance (or two) on a football pool were the activities, and the good cause was Quench and Connect

Club members enjoyed turning pumpkins into centerpieces, and cheering on either Notre Dame or the Virginia Cavaliers.  Football pool winners announced every quarter, and the crowd favorite, Notre Dame, was victorious. The funds raised will be added to a La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club grant of $1,500 for Quench and Connect.

Kathryn Ely, founder of Quench and Connect, was on hand to explain how her decades of work as a university level structural biologist led her to Africa to determine why so few students from the continent came to U.S. universities for advanced studies. She identified the need for clean water and educational supports and began to fund the first of dozens of cost-effective water bore holes in Uganda to improve children's health, making it possible for them to attend school and thrive.

Big thanks to Ivy for her party planning, crafting, and fundraising skills, to Kathryn for her life-changing work, and to all Club members and friends who supported this fun fundraiser!
