In July, Club members assembled 60 hygiene kits to deliver to Sharia’s Closet, a nonprofit whose mission is to provide free, emergency clothing and other personal items to people in immediate need, such as those in programs to support those experiencing domestic violence or homelessness.

Club members participated in a service project at Sharia’s Closet in April, helping to fill bags for clients of social service agencies in need of shoes, socks, clothes, coats, bedding and personal care items. They noticed a lack of hygiene items such as shampoo, toothbrushes, deodorant, combs, etc. To meet this need a Club project was developed to fill large ziplock bags with items donated by members, and a day was selected to to work and socialize together. We were pleased to have two members from the Rotary Club of El Cajon Sunset join us for that day.

Shamine Linton, Founder/CEO-President of Sharia’s Closet, wrote in her thank you note, “We are incredibly grateful to the La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club not only for supporting Sharia’s Closet but for taking the time to identify a need and help fill that gap. Partnerships like yours allow us to continue providing comprehensive support through our Bags of Hope program and emergency resource services.”
