What happens when members of the La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club collaborate on a service project with two other Rotary clubs, the San Diego State University Rotaract Club, and a Rotary Global Scholar from Japan? Conversation, connection, and positive impact for a great cause: MAKE Projects! https://www.sdmake.org/

MAKE Projects, a social venture nonprofit providing job training and work experience for refugee women, runs MAKE Farm on the SDSU Mission Valley campus. MAKE Farm is where food is grown to fill produce boxes for sale to the public, and where children learn the basics of how to grow fruits and vegetables during school field trips and camp experiences.

On October 25, 2025, Club members and friends amended soil, flipped beds, made compost, moved heavy stakes, and seeded trays in preparation for winter crops to be grown at the 53 row urban farm.

Volunteers then enjoyed the “Taste of Community” event where program participants from around the world spoke about their journeys to San Diego and how MAKE Projects is helping them achieve their goals. Founder Anchi Mei shared exciting plans to open MAKE Cafe in Normal Heights in early 2026.

This project is an example of how Rotary Clubs can collaborate to make positive change in our community!
