Shannon Coleman, Pubic Assistance Investigator with the San Diego County Bureau of Public Assistance Investigations, was honored as a Public Safety Hero by the La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club. Nominator and Speaker Chair Camille Chenoweth-Moyer and President David Harris presented a certificate and gift card to Shannon in recognition of her dedication to her job and going above and beyond her job description to demonstrate "service above self" to improve conditions in her department and community.
 
 

 

Recognizing the importance of wellness and self-care, especially to those safeguarding the public's trust through fraud investigation, Shannon Coleman took action to help support the well-being of her colleagues. Shannon initiated the creation of a wellness website with resources tailored for law enforcement professionals, and the acquisition of a mobile wellness app to support their journey to well-being.  She took the major step of becoming a yoga instructor and is now sharing the benefits of that practice with her co-workers.

Shannon’s vision for wellness and her actions and accomplishments have empowered the staff of the Bureau of Public Assistance Investigators to focus on a healthy and more resilient lifestyle. Shannon embodies the spirit of the Public Safety Hero award by inspiring positive change for Bureau staff and ultimately the community members they serve.
