As I begin my year as Club President, Sunrise has taken on a new meaning. It is the dawn of a new reality that none of us expected! So, welcome to meetings on Zoom, community projects being done while keeping 6 feet apart and wearing face masks, and doing the best we can to stay connected. We have not been meeting in the mornings for breakfast, we can't exchange hugs, but we are meeting! Over the past few months we have worked in small groups to harvest citrus and now avocados from numerous people's private orchards, and distributes thousands of pounds of fresh produce to food banks in El Cajon, Santee, Jewish Family Services, Salvation Army, churches and other places that pack food for people in need during these times of unemployment and isolation.
We will continue to donate our time, our funds and our energy as we connect in new ways. The new theme of our Rotary International President Holger Knaacht is "Rotary Opens Opportunities." We have a lot of exciting opportunities to connect with speakers and new club members who might not have been able to attend one of our "regular" meetings, but can now join via Zoom. We can find speakers from other nations, hold committee meetings without having to leave our houses, and save the money we would have been spending on meals, to spend on community projects instead. Let's embrace the change!
